Amy Lynn (Siebring) Jurrens was born on July 7, 1971, in Rock Rapids, IA, the daughter of Gary and Beverly (Elbers) Siebring. Amy attended George Community School and graduated in 1989. She earned a Master’s Degree in Rhetoric and Composition from South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD. Amy was united in marriage to Jerry Jurrens on November 27, 1992, at Hope Reformed Church in George, IA. They made their home in Brookings, SD, and later moved to the Twin Cities metro area. Amy worked for a human resources consulting firm in Minneapolis while Jerry completed his education in mortuary science at the University of Minnesota. Although Amy never thought she would move back to her hometown, she wanted her kids to grow up with their grandparents. In the fall of 1996, they returned to George and began to grow their family. Amy started her career as an English professor at Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon, IA, retiring from teaching in the spring of 2024. Amy co-owned the Jurrens Funeral Homes and Memorial Funeral Home with her husband.

Amy deeply loved her two children, Conner and Lauren, attending their activities and nurturing their individuality. She enjoyed embarking on casual adventures with her husband Jerry, exploring trails in the Black Hills via their side-by-side and going on slow boat rides around Lake Okoboji. Amy also delighted in the simple things, spending quiet evenings in her chair at home watching shows with Jerry and cuddling their French bulldog, Georgie, and hosting cozy Saturday morning coffee gatherings with her family. She relished in spending meaningful time with her friends and family members, valuing deep conversations and heartfelt connections.

With confidence and bravery, Amy would step into new experiences; her curious nature guided her throughout her life. Amy loved to plan and create memorable experiences for those she loved. She had an eye for detail and meticulously curated the decorations in her home and church. Her time management skills were unparalleled, and those in her life delighted in her fun sayings and mannerisms. Amy had a passion for literature and was an avid reader. She was also deeply involved in music throughout her life and often sang in her church’s choir. If Amy was going to do something, she would do it with determination and unwavering conviction. She was unapologetic and didn’t conform to others. She forged her own path. Amy was a visionary leader; she could often discern and compile a solution quicker than most, allowing her to go above and beyond, excelling in every role. Amy was deeply involved in her church, guiding her fellow members in ways seen and unseen. Her faith was steadfast, and she loved sharing the love of God with others. Amy cared for others immensely, living her life with empathy and compassion. Her generosity and kindness were given freely to those she meet. Amy had a singular personality, big emotions, and an even bigger heart.

As a student of life, Amy was always at the top of her class. She had a deep love of learning and a long, distinguished history of service to public education. Amy represented Iowa’s Area Education Agencies on the IASB Board of Directors, joining in 2008 as the District 1 Director representing northwest Iowa and the George-Little Rock CSD. She served six years before completing a six-year leadership cycle as president-elect, president, and past president. Amy served as the AEA representative to the IASB Board since 2020 and on the IASB Foundation Board since 2025. Her leadership extended beyond Iowa. Helping to strengthen collaboration among state school board associations across the country, Amy served nationally with the Consortium of State School Boards Associations (COSSBA) as a member of the organization’s Unified Board Alliance Advisory Board. Amy also served on the Northwest AEA Board of Directors since 2019, including as its president this year. Prior to that, she served on the George-Little Rock CSD Board of Directors from 1999 to 2015, demonstrating a lifelong commitment to supporting students and public education.

While her passion for education ran deep, Amy’s greatest love in life was always her family. She cherished both ordinary and significant moments with those she loved, holding them close to her heart. Although Amy’s life on earth ended too early, her bright smile, unique sense of humor, spirited nature, and strong faith will be remembered fondly by those who knew her. Amy will be sincerely missed, and her love will continue to impact the lives of those she touched.

Amy is survived by her husband of 33 years, Jerry Jurrens of George, IA; their children, Conner (Katrina) Jurrens of St. Paul, MN, and Lauren (Parker) Fryar of Iowa City, IA; her parents, Gary and Beverly Siebring of George, IA; mother-in-law, Lois Jurrens of George, IA; her siblings, Eric Siebring of New Albin, IA, and Gina Siebring (Dean Julius) of George, IA; sister-in-law, Susan (Chon) O’Clair of Matlock, IA; several nieces and nephew; aunts and uncles, Marianne (Arlyn) Johnson of George, IA, Carol (Marion) Van Bemmel of Luverne, MN, and Jean Elbers of Brandon, SD; along with many cousins.
