Allen Dale Hansmann was born January 4, 1932, at George, IA, the son of Henry and Alice (Brommer) Hansmann. Allen grew up on the family farm north of George and attended country school. After receiving his education, he helped on the family farm. He served his country in the United States Army and upon his honorable discharge he returned home to George. He was united in marriage to Betty Arends on January 12, 1956. They made their home on their farm north of George where they raised their family and Allen worked the land until he retired, at which time he and Betty moved into town. Allen was a “quiet man” that enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing, going on vacations and just going for car rides to wherever the road led them. For many years he and his family would spend some time at the Kaster’s Resort near Brainerd, Minnesota where many good memories were made. Allen was a member of the George American Legion and a lifelong member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in George. At the age of ninety-three, he passed away at home this past Friday evening, November 28, 2025. His family will dearly miss him.
He is survived by his wife, Betty of George, IA; their children, Michele (Travis) Dirks of George, IA; Clay (Deb) Hansmann of George, IA; Stacey (Muayed) Dizaye of Sioux Falls, SD and Blair (Jennifer) Hansmann of George, IA; he cherished being “Gramps” to his eight grandchildren; Allison (Brad) Sandbeck of George, IA; Andrea Dirks of Sheldon, IA; Erin (Derek) Kosters of Sioux Center, IA; Ethan (Coral) Dirks of Rochester, MN; Arya (Brandon) Murray of Pacific Grove, CA; Elizabeth (Dylan) McMahon of Watertown, SD; Matthew Hansmann and Johanna Hansmann of George, IA; and his eleven great grandchildren, Elise, John, Isaiah and Katherine Sandbeck; Brogan, Blakely and Benton Kosters, Bjorn Dirks, Cameron and Soleen Murray and Bennett McMahon. A normal day would generally include a visit from at least one of them. He knew the special interests of each one of them, so they always had something to talk about.
Allen was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Alice; brother, Marvin Hansmann; sisters, Mavis (Emil) Breuer and Mildred (Robert) Dickmann.
